Discover more about Crescent Moon Picnic Site

Crescent Moon Picnic Site, also known as Crescent Moon Ranch and Red Rock Crossing, is a picturesque destination located in Sedona, Arizona, renowned for its majestic red rock formations and tranquil atmosphere. Situated below the towering Cathedral Rock, one of the most photographed scenes in the Southwest, this historic landmark was once a working ranch and even a backdrop for Western movies. The area's history dates back to 700-900 AD with the Southern Sinaguan people. In the late 1800s, it was homesteaded as a cattle ranch. In the early 1900s, two families collaborated to build an elaborate irrigation system, drawing water from Oak Creek to supply homes and irrigate fields. The Coconino National Forest acquired the 160-acre Crescent Moon Ranch in 1980 to preserve its scenic and recreational value. Today, visitors can still see the historic water wheel and buildings. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including picnicking, swimming, fishing, and photography. Trails wind throughout the park, along the creek, and past the historic buildings. The site is particularly famous for its breathtaking views of Cathedral Rock, especially during sunset. The swimming holes along Oak Creek are also a major draw.
