Discover more about Memorial Union

The Memorial Union, affectionately known as the "MU," stands as the living room of ASU's Tempe campus. Since opening in 1956, the MU has grown from 109,000 square feet serving 6,000 students to a sprawling 254,000 square feet accommodating a student body of 75,000. A plaque near the north entrance honors the major donors who contributed to its initial construction. The MU was named to honor those who have served in the military. Inside, the Cecelia Scoular study lounge commemorates the building's first director. Over the years, the MU has undergone several renovations and expansions to meet the needs of a growing university. The Memorial Union offers a diverse range of services and amenities. Dining options abound, from fast food to cafes. Students can find study spaces, meeting rooms, and lounges throughout the building. The MU also houses the Pat Tillman Veterans Center, Changemaker Central, and student organization offices. The MU is more than just a building; it's a community center that fosters a sense of belonging and celebrates diversity. It hosts events, programs, and activities that enrich the ASU experience. Whether grabbing a bite to eat, studying for exams, or connecting with fellow students, the Memorial Union is at the heart of campus life. The second floor features a mural originally from the MEChA student office, saved after a fire in 2007. The mural depicts themes of indigenous roots, colonialism, and political activism.
