Getting There

Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Ouachita National Forest. From the town of Mt. Ida, head south on AR-27 S for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Joplin Rd (also known as FS 50) and follow the signs for the Joplin Use Area. Continue for another 3 miles, and you will see the entrance to Joplin Use Area on your left. There is no entrance fee for this area.

Public Transportation + Walking
If you are using public transportation, take a bus to Mt. Ida, which is the closest town to the Joplin Use Area. Once you arrive in Mt. Ida, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to get to the Joplin Use Area, as public transport does not go directly there. Expect to pay around $20 for a taxi ride, which will take about 15 minutes. After being dropped off, you can walk to the entrance of the Joplin Use Area.
