Discover more about Casibari Rock Formations

Rising dramatically from Aruba's relatively flat landscape, the Casibari Rock Formations are a collection of impressive tonalite boulders that have stood for ages, shaped by time and the elements. The rocks are spread across an area of about 30,000 square meters and vary in size, with some towering up to 20 meters in height. While the exact origins and age of the Casibari Rock Formation remain unknown, the site is said to hold historic significance for the indigenous Arawak people. Archaeological evidence, including petroglyphs (rock carvings) and ancient tools, suggests the area was a sacred site used for rituals and gatherings. Explore the well-marked trails that guide visitors through the labyrinth of boulders. The ascent involves climbing around 50 uneven steps, which children particularly enjoy as they get to climb over the rocks. The views from the top provide a stunning 360-degree panorama of the surrounding areas, including one of the best views of Mt. Hooiberg. The arid area is dotted with cacti, and animals such as the Shoco burrowing owl and Aruban Whiptail Lizard can be seen amongst the boulders.
