Getting There

  • Driving

    From the center of Atherton, head south on Herberton Rd. Turn left onto Rifle Range Rd (opposite the Chinese Temple); signs indicate the Mountain Bike Park. Continue past the gun club, veering left onto the dirt road to reach the trailhead. Parking is available at the trailhead. There are no fees to enter the park.

    From Atherton's main street, the Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park entrance at Vernon Street is approximately a 2km walk. Head south-east from town, following Vernon Street until you arrive at the Atherton Trailhead and Skills Park, which marks one of the entrances to the park.

Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park is a premier mountain biking destination located in the Herberton Range State Forest, near the town of Atherton. The park boasts over 70km of meticulously designed single-track trails, catering to riders of all abilities, from beginners to seasoned experts. The trails wind through a diverse landscape of open eucalypt forests, valleys, and seasonal creek crossings. Riders can enjoy the scenery of gums, bloodwoods, mahoganies, she-oaks, grasstrees, and cycads, as well as former forestry experimental plots of teak, blackbutt, and tallowwood trees. The trails are well-signed and color-coded according to difficulty: green (easy), blue (intermediate), and black (difficult). The park was funded by a grant from the Federal and State Governments and Tablelands Regional Council. The majority of the trail network was designed and constructed by World Trail Pty Ltd, with input from Glen Jacobs. The trails feature rock armoring to deal with the region's rainfall, rock chairs at scenic viewpoints, and directional trails. Whether you're looking for a leisurely ride or a challenging workout, Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park offers an unforgettable experience for mountain bikers of all levels.
