Getting There

Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Jindabyne. Head north on Kosciuszko Road (B71) for about 1.5 kilometers. Continue straight until you reach the junction with the Alpine Way. Turn left onto the Alpine Way. After approximately 10 kilometers, you will see the signs for the Mount Kosciuszko National Park entrance. There is an entry fee of approximately AUD 17 per vehicle for a day pass. After paying the fee, continue along the Alpine Way until you reach the Thredbo area. From Thredbo, follow the signs to the Kosciuszko Summit Chairlift. You can park your car in the designated parking areas.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Jindabyne to Thredbo. Several services operate, including the Thredbo Shuttle. Check the schedule for the latest departure times. Once in Thredbo, you can either hike to the Strzelecki Monument or take the Kosciuszko Summit Chairlift. The chairlift ride is approximately AUD 40 for a return ticket. After disembarking from the chairlift, follow the marked walking trails to the summit where the Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki Monument is located.

Hiking
If you are already in the Thredbo area, you can hike directly to the Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki Monument. From the base of the chairlift, take the walking trail that leads to Mount Kosciuszko. The hike is about 6.5 kilometers one way and generally takes around 2-3 hours to reach the summit. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and bring water. The trail is well-marked, so follow the signs to the summit.
