Discover more about Besinnungsweg Neustift im Stubaital

The Besinnungsweg, or Path of Reflection, is a captivating hiking trail located in the Pinnistal Valley near Neustift im Stubaital, Austria. Created between 1996 and 1997, this unique path combines the beauty of the Tyrolean Alps with art and spiritual contemplation. The trail begins near Neder, a part of Neustift, and winds its way up the mountainside. Along the path, hikers encounter a series of striking, larger-than-life sculptures accompanied by reflective texts and quotes, primarily from the Psalms. These thought-provoking installations encourage visitors to pause, reflect, and connect with nature and their inner selves. Benches are strategically placed along the route, inviting hikers to rest, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and absorb the scenery and messages. The Besinnungsweg is not merely a walk in the woods; it's an experience designed to engage both the body and the mind. The trail itself involves a moderate climb, with some sections including stairs. The path leads through a beautiful forest, eventually arriving at the Issenangeralm, a traditional mountain hut where hikers can rest and enjoy local cuisine. The Issenangeralm and the old Herzeben barracks in the Pinnistal valley form the crowning turning point of a 3-hour circular hike. The geology of the rear Pinnistal offers a unique feature. On the left, you can see the mighty limestone reefs in rugged, horizontally layered wall alignments. The abysses of the Kirchdachspitzen are over 600 metres high and the Ilmspitzen further back, with their jagged pillars and vertical walls, are reminiscent of the Drei Zinnen in the Dolomites. Hundreds of metres of light-grey scree slopes down to the valley floor. Whether you're seeking a peaceful escape, a spiritual journey, or simply a beautiful hike in the Alps, the Besinnungsweg offers a memorable and enriching experience.
