The Nizami Museum of Azerbaijani Literature, located in the heart of Baku, stands as a testament to Azerbaijan's profound literary legacy. Named in honor of Nizami Ganjavi, the 12th-century poet considered one of the greatest figures in Azerbaijani literature, the museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the nation's rich written culture. The museum's building itself has a storied past. Constructed in the mid-19th century, it initially served as a caravanserai, later becoming a hotel in 1915. For a brief period, it housed members of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. In 1939, in commemoration of Nizami Ganjavi's 800th anniversary, the building was transformed into a memorial museum. It officially opened to the public in 1945. The exterior of the museum is adorned with statues of prominent Azerbaijani literary figures, including Fuzuli, Vagif, Mirza Fatali Akhundov, Khurshidbanu Natavan, Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, and Jafar Jabbarli. Inside, visitors can explore a vast collection of over 3,000 manuscripts, rare books, and other literary artifacts. Highlights include a 15th-century manuscript of Nizami's "Iskandar Nameh" and a 16th-century manuscript of Fuzuli's "Bangu Bada". The exhibits also feature writers' autographs, colorful miniatures illustrating ancient manuscripts, traditional clothing, and medieval weaponry. The museum not only honors Nizami Ganjavi but also showcases the works of other influential Azerbaijani writers and poets, such as Fuzuli, Mirza Fatali Akhundov, and Jafar Jabbarli.
