The Vagif Mustafazadeh House Museum, situated in the heart of Baku's historic Icherisheher, is dedicated to the life and work of the legendary Azerbaijani jazz pianist and composer, Vagif Mustafazadeh. Established in 1989, the museum became a branch of the Azerbaijan State Museum of Musical Culture in 1994. Mustafazadeh is celebrated as the founder of jazz-mugham, a unique blending of traditional Azerbaijani music (mugham) with American jazz, which left a significant mark on the 20th-century music scene. The museum is located in the very house where Mustafazadeh lived, providing visitors with an intimate and authentic glimpse into his life and creative journey. Inside, the museum displays over 1200 artifacts related to the musician's life and career, including photographs, posters, gramophone records, documents, and personal belongings. These items chronicle his early life in the Old City, his musical education, and his rise to fame as an innovative jazz musician. One of the most prized possessions is Mustafazadeh's piano, which also served as his daughter Aziza Mustafazadeh's first piano. Aziza followed in her father's footsteps and became a world-renowned jazz musician. The museum also features a radio that Mustafazadeh used to listen to his favorite jazz musicians, despite the genre being restricted in the USSR at the time. The museum's atmosphere is enhanced by the sounds of Mustafazadeh's music playing in the background, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in his artistic vision. The museum is led by Afag Aliyeva, Mustafazadeh's cousin, who is also the founder and chairman of the Cultural and Charitable Foundation named after the musician.
