Discover more about Philarmonia Garden

Philarmonia Garden, also called Filarmonia Park or Governor's Park, is a cherished park in Baku, adjacent to the Baku Fortress. Established in 1830, its origins are tied to ship captains arriving from Iran who were asked to bring soil to enrich the park. The garden expanded in the 1860s and 1870s, becoming known as Mixaylov Bag, after the governor. In the early 20th century, plans for a concert hall were scrapped to preserve the trees, resulting in a summer pavilion instead. Renovations in the 1970s and further enhancements in 2007, under President Ilham Aliyev, introduced a French-designed fountain. Today, the park features diverse trees, a large fountain, and is home to many parrots, adding an exotic touch. It's a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, offering a tranquil escape in the city center. The garden serves as a silent witness to Baku's history, from public gatherings during the oil boom to changes during the Soviet era. It also features statues and memorials that reflect Azerbaijan's cultural heritage, making it a living museum. The Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall, resembling the Monte Carlo Casino, stands at the garden's entrance, adding European architectural flair.
