Getting There

  • Car

    From Samdrup Jongkhar, take the road towards Trashigang. Drive for approximately 40 kilometers until you reach the junction for Merak. Turn left onto the Merak road, which is well-marked. Continue for about 30 kilometers on this road, which will take you through scenic rural areas. You'll eventually reach the village of Merak. The Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary entrance is located near the village. Look for local signs indicating the sanctuary's entrance.

    Start at the Samdrup Jongkhar bus station. Take a bus heading towards Trashigang. Inform the conductor that you want to get off at the Merak junction (this is about 40 kilometers from Samdrup Jongkhar).
