Getting There

Car
From Samdrup Jongkhar, take the road towards Trashigang. Drive for approximately 40 kilometers until you reach the junction for Merak. Turn left onto the Merak road, which is well-marked. Continue for about 30 kilometers on this road, which will take you through scenic rural areas. You'll eventually reach the village of Merak. The Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary entrance is located near the village. Look for local signs indicating the sanctuary's entrance.

Public Transportation
Start at the Samdrup Jongkhar bus station. Take a bus heading towards Trashigang. Inform the conductor that you want to get off at the Merak junction (this is about 40 kilometers from Samdrup Jongkhar). After getting off at the junction, you will need to hire a taxi or a local vehicle to reach Merak village (approximately 30 kilometers). Once in Merak, ask locals for directions to the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary entrance.

If you're looking for a more direct option, you can hire a taxi from Samdrup Jongkhar. Negotiate a fare with the driver to take you directly to Merak village. This option may be more expensive but offers convenience as the driver will take care of all the navigation. Once you reach Merak, the entrance to Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary is nearby.
