Cachoeira do Mosquito: A Diamond in the Rough

Cachoeira do Mosquito is a captivating waterfall nestled within the Chapada Diamantina National Park, near Lençóis, Bahia. The waterfall is approximately 70 meters (230 feet) high and is surrounded by impressive rock walls and lush vegetation. The waters plunge into a pool where visitors can enjoy a refreshing swim.The name 'Cachoeira do Mosquito' (Mosquito Waterfall) comes from the small diamonds, called 'mosquitos' by the local garimpeiros (miners), that were once found in the river. While the diamonds may be gone, the natural beauty of the area remains.To reach the falls, visitors travel about 40 kilometers from Lençóis, much of which is on paved roads. The waterfall is located on private property, the Complexo Turístico Fazenda Santo Antônio, which offers a restaurant with regional cuisine. From the parking area, a roughly 1 km trail leads to the base of the falls. A viewpoint near the top of the falls provides stunning panoramic views.The falls are easily accessible and do not require a guide to visit. The trail to the base of the waterfall is considered easy to moderate, with some steep sections. The waterfall is a popular destination for those seeking a refreshing swim and a connection with nature.
