Previously, the land belonged to the Vila Fortunata mansion, built in 1903 by Alexandre Honoré Marie Thiollier. Notably, the renowned Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx was born in this house when his family briefly resided there. The house was later demolished in 1972. In 2010, the Parque Prefeito Mário Covas was inaugurated, named in honor of Mário Covas, a significant figure in Brazilian politics. Today, the park features a variety of attractions, including a tourist information center, walking trails, and outdoor fitness equipment.
