Discover more about Honeymoon Beach

Honeymoon Beach, located on the north shore of St. John, is a jewel within the Virgin Islands National Park. This idyllic beach is renowned for its powdery white sand, calm, clear turquoise waters, and stunning panoramic views. From the beach, visitors can see St. Thomas in the distance, along with the nearby islands of Grass Cay, Mingo Cay, and Lovango Cay. The beach's name evokes a sense of romance and tranquility, making it a popular spot for couples and families alike. The crystal-clear waters are ideal for swimming and snorkeling, with seagrass beds and patch coral just off the shore, offering glimpses of sea turtles, rays, and colorful fish. Snorkeling east towards Caneel Bay reveals hard and soft corals along the shoreline, while snorkeling west towards Salomon Beach showcases rocky coral outcroppings. Honeymoon Beach is accessible via two primary hiking trails: the Lind Point Trail and the Caneel Spur Trail. The Lind Point Trail, approximately one mile each way, begins near the National Park Visitor Center in Cruz Bay and offers scenic views along the way. The Caneel Spur Trail, a shorter but steeper option, starts off North Shore Road (Route 20). In the past, Honeymoon Beach was part of the Caneel Bay Resort, established by Laurance Rockefeller in 1956. Rockefeller, captivated by the island's beauty, sought to create a resort that harmonized with nature, and later donated much of the land to the U.S. government to form the Virgin Islands National Park. Although the Caneel Bay Resort is currently closed, Honeymoon Beach remains a welcoming destination with amenities such as restrooms, showers, and a water sports center. Despite the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017, Honeymoon Beach has retained its stunning beauty, with leaning palms adding to its charm. Whether arriving by foot or by boat, visitors can immerse themselves in the natural splendor of St. John and enjoy a memorable Caribbean beach experience.
