The Monument of the Holy Mother of God, a prominent landmark in Haskovo, stands as a testament to the city's devotion to the Virgin Mary, its traditional patron saint. The monument, standing 31 meters (102 feet) tall, was inaugurated on September 8, 2003, and consecrated by Metropolitan Bishop Arsenius of Plovdiv. It quickly became one of the symbols of Haskovo, alongside the medieval key on the city's coat of arms. The monument earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2004 as the tallest statue of the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus. The statue itself is 14 meters (46 feet) high and made of polymer concrete. The monument is visible from anywhere in the city due to its size and location on Yamacha Hill. The hill offers a captivating panorama of the entire city. In 2010, a 30-meter bell tower was constructed next to the statue. The bell tower, one of the highest in the Balkans, houses eight bells of varying sizes, and visitors can climb it via metal steps to enjoy the view. At the base of the monument, there is a small chapel. The monument is also included as No. 72 among the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria. The idea for the monument came from the mayor of Haskovo, Georgi Ivanov, and was funded by donations from the citizens of Haskovo.
