Walking
If you are starting from the center of Big Sur, head north on Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). Continue walking along the highway for about 25 miles until you reach the town of Monterey. Once you arrive in Monterey, look for the signs directing you towards downtown. You will want to turn onto Del Monte Avenue, which will lead you straight into the heart of the city. From Del Monte Avenue, take a right onto Pacific Street. The Colton Hall Museum and Jail will be located at 570 Pacific St, on your left side. The museum is a short walk from the main downtown area.

Public Transit
From Big Sur, you can take the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) bus service. Catch the MST Route 22 or Route 24 that heads towards Monterey. Make sure to check the bus schedule for the latest timings. Once you arrive at the Monterey Transit Plaza, exit the bus and walk towards Alvarado Street. Head east on Alvarado Street until you reach Pacific Street. Turn left onto Pacific Street and walk about three blocks. The Colton Hall Museum and Jail will be at 570 Pacific St, on your left.
