If you're driving from downtown Oakland, take I-980 W towards San Francisco. Merge onto I-80 W and continue for approximately 9 miles. Take exit 1C for Fremont St toward Embarcadero. Continue on Fremont St, then turn right onto Howard St. Follow Howard St until you reach the intersection with Battery St. Turn left onto Battery St and then take a right onto Clay St. Continue on Clay St and turn right onto Balance St, where you will find the Shortest Street in California. Parking is available on nearby streets, but be aware of parking meters and fees.

To reach the Shortest Street in California using public transportation, start by taking BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) from any East Bay station (e.g., MacArthur, Rockridge, or Downtown Berkeley) to the Embarcadero station in San Francisco. Once you exit BART, take the Muni F-Line streetcar towards Fisherman’s Wharf. Get off at the Embarcadero & Ferry Building stop. From there, walk along the Embarcadero towards Howard St, then follow turns as described in the car guidance. The walk is about 15 minutes.
