From the Lake Merritt BART station, it's about a 2-mile walk to the Gardens, or you can transfer to a connecting bus. A single BART ride within Oakland typically costs between $2.35 and $3.70. AC Transit local bus fares are around $2.10.

From the north end of Lake Merritt, the Gardens are easily accessible by foot. Follow the Lakeside Park path along the lake's edge. The Gardens are located near Children's Fairyland. The walk is mostly flat and offers scenic views of the lake.

Driving
If driving, take the Grand Ave/Lakeshore exit from I-580. Limited parking is available in Lakeside Park. Parking inside Lakeside Park on Bellevue Avenue costs $2 for two hours or $10 for all-day parking on weekdays, and $5 for all-day parking on weekends and holidays. Free parking can be found on streets surrounding Lake Merritt, though it may be limited.
