    Take the San Diego Trolley to the City College Station. Transfer to the outbound #7 bus to reach Balboa Park. From the bus stop within Balboa Park, walk towards the San Diego Zoo; the carousel will be near the entrance. A single ride on the bus costs $2.50.

Built in 1910 by the Herschell-Spillman Company of North Tonawanda, New York, this classic menagerie carousel has been a beloved Balboa Park fixture since 1922. The carousel features 52 hand-carved wooden animals, including horses, tigers, lions, and even a frog, offering a unique ride for everyone. The original hand-painted murals surrounding the carousel and the vintage military band organ add to its authentic turn-of-the-century charm. The carousel still operates with its original General Electric motor. One of the few carousels still offering the brass ring game, riders on the outer ring can try their luck at grabbing a brass ring to win a free ride. The Balboa Park Carousel was designated as a Historical Resource by the City of San Diego in 2021, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
