Discover more about Pearson-Arastradero Preserve

Enid Pearson-Arastradero Preserve, nestled in the Palo Alto foothills, offers a diverse landscape of rolling grasslands, evergreen forests, and a serene lake. This 622-acre preserve provides a natural escape with over 10 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and equestrian use. The preserve's history adds to its appeal. Once a working ranch, it was slated for a large housing development in the 1970s. The Palo Alto City Council, recognizing the importance of open space, purchased the land and dedicated it as parkland. In 2004, it was renamed to honor Enid Pearson, a key figure in protecting Palo Alto's parkland. Today, visitors can explore a variety of habitats, from open grasslands with wildflowers to shady oak woodlands. Arastradero Lake, a twenty-minute hike from the parking lot, is open year-round for fishing. Wildlife sightings are common, including deer, bobcats, coyotes, and diverse bird species. The preserve also plays a crucial role in ecological restoration, with ongoing efforts to remove non-native plants and restore native habitats. Whether you're seeking a challenging hike, a peaceful nature walk, or a place to connect with the outdoors, Pearson-Arastradero Preserve offers a rewarding experience. Be sure to check for seasonal trail closures, especially after heavy rain, and stay on marked trails to avoid poison oak.
