Experience PIER 39

Getting There

  • Walking

    From the heart of Chinatown, head northwest on Grant Avenue towards the intersection with California Street. Continue straight until you reach the Embarcadero. Once you arrive at the Embarcadero, turn right and walk along the waterfront for approximately 15-20 minutes. You will pass by the Ferry Building Marketplace on your left; it's a great spot to explore if you have time. Keep walking straight, and you will soon see the entrance to PIER 39 on your left. Look for the iconic sea lions lounging on the docks.

  • Cable Car

    If you'd like a fun and unique experience, you can take the Powell-Hyde cable car from Chinatown. Head to the Powell Street cable car station (located near the corner of Powell and California Streets). Board the cable car and enjoy the ride as it climbs up the hill. Get off at the Powell Street and Beach Street stop. From there, walk down Beach Street towards the waterfront, and you will quickly arrive at PIER 39, which will be on your right. This ride costs $8 per person.

  • Public Transit (Bus)

    For a quicker option, you can take the Muni bus. Walk to the nearest bus stop at Grant Avenue & California Street. Catch the 8X or 10 bus heading towards the Embarcadero. The fare is $3 for a one-way trip. Get off at the Embarcadero & Bay Street stop. From there, it’s just a short walk to PIER 39. Head towards the water, and you will see the entrance to the pier.
