Discover more about Pozo Majagual Park

Pozo Majagual Park, located in the heart of Sincelejo, is more than just a park; it's a living monument to the city's history and resilience. In 1870, the mayor of Sincelejo, Manuel Támara Herazo, ordered the excavation of the Pozo Majagual to provide a reliable water source for the inhabitants. For over half a century, this well, along with others like Salitral and Hoya de la Bartola, quenched the thirst of the people of Sincelejo. The existence of Pozo Majagual was fundamental to the survival and development of the region. It not only sustained the local population but also inspired poetry, stories, and songs. The availability of water facilitated the construction of the first cement houses and necessary infrastructure in the town. Today, Pozo Majagual Park covers 1.6 acres and features a children's playground and a small pool, a symbolic reminder of the well's historical importance. It is a popular spot for walking and family activities. While many young people may not know the park's full history, it remains an important landmark for the people of Sincelejo. The park is open from 5:00 AM to 9:30 PM daily, offering a green escape for locals and tourists alike.
