Discover more about Moraine Park Discovery Center

Located 1.5 miles from the Beaver Meadows Entrance, the Moraine Park Discovery Center welcomes visitors to explore the wonders of Rocky Mountain National Park. Housed in a historic building dating back to 1923, originally the Moraine Park Lodge, the center now features interactive natural history exhibits. These exhibits delve into the geologic processes, glaciation, weather and climate, ecosystems, and human impact that have shaped the park's landscapes. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Moraine Park and Longs Peak. Knowledgeable rangers and volunteers are available to answer questions and provide insights about the park. A short nature trail offers an opportunity to stretch your legs and immerse yourself in the surroundings. The Discovery Center also provides access to the Moraine Park Loop, a 5.5-mile trail suitable for easy hiking and birdwatching. Originally built as Moraine Park Lodge by Imogene MacPherson in the 1920s, the building served as the center of a tourist operation. In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) restored much of the land to its natural state and converted the lodge's assembly hall into a museum. The adjacent amphitheater, constructed by the CCC, hosts K-12 education programs and wedding ceremonies. The Moraine Park Discovery Center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property within the Moraine Park Museum and Amphitheater Historic District.
