Discover more about Cheyenne Spring

Cheyenne Spring, located on Manitou Avenue in the heart of Manitou Springs, Colorado, is a natural artesian spring with a rich history and distinctive flavor. The spring's water is naturally carbonated, creating a refreshing, slightly sweet taste that distinguishes it from other mineral springs in the area. For centuries, the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Jicarilla Apache, and Ute tribes frequented the springs, considering them sacred sites for healing, meditation, and peace. These tribes believed the waters held spiritual power and shared the springs peacefully. In the 1870s, the spring was part of Soda Springs Park, along with Navajo, Shoshone, and Manitou Springs. The Manitou Mineral Water Company constructed the current sandstone spring house in 1890, using red-orange Lyons sandstone from the nearby Kenmuir Quarry. The company piped the water to their bottling plant and claimed to be the first in the world to capture the natural carbon dioxide emitted from the spring and reinsert it during the bottling process. The spring's water originates from rainwater and snowmelt from Pikes Peak, filtering through limestone aquifers a mile deep. This process enriches the water with minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. The current bronze font was designed by sculptor Paul Rogers. Today, Cheyenne Spring remains a popular destination for locals and tourists seeking to experience the unique mineral waters of Manitou Springs.
