Getting There

  • Driving

    The most common way to reach Pikes Peak's summit is by driving the 19-mile Pikes Peak Highway. From Colorado Springs, take US-24 West to Cascade. Follow the signs to the Pikes Peak Highway entrance. There is a toll to drive the highway; $18 per adult (16+), $8 per child (6-15), or $50 per carload (up to 5 passengers). A timed entry permit is required from May 23 to September 30, costing $2 per vehicle. Parking is available at the summit, but can be limited. Reservations are required during the peak season.

  • Cog Railway

    Another option is to take the Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. From Colorado Springs, take US-24 West to Manitou Springs. Follow the signs to the Cog Railway. Parking at the Cog Railway is $20. Standard admission is $58.50 per adult and $48.50 per child (12 and under). Reserved and Engineer's View seating options are also available at a higher cost. The train ride is approximately 3 hours round trip, with 40 minutes at the summit.

  • Hiking

    For experienced hikers, the Barr Trail offers a challenging 13-mile (one-way) hike to the summit. The trailhead is located in Manitou Springs. Parking is available at Iron Springs Chateau. There is no cost to hike, but you may need to pay for parking. A shuttle service is available from the summit back to the Barr Trail trailhead for $60 per passenger (including the toll gate fee). Be prepared for a strenuous hike with significant elevation gain.

Pike's Peak, also known as America's Mountain, is a prominent peak in the Rocky Mountains, rising majestically to an altitude of 14,115 feet. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, an annual automobile race to the summit, was first held in 1916 and has since become the second-oldest motorsports race in America. The new state-of-the-art Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center opened in June 2021, offering visitors of all ages and abilities an exciting experience. The center features accessible walkways, exhibits about the mountain's history and environment, a gift shop, and dining areas. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views and the famous Pikes Peak donuts.
