Getting There

• Public Transit

  From downtown Glenwood Springs, start at the Glenwood Springs Bus Station located at 9th Street & Grand Avenue. Board the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) bus heading towards Aspen. You will need to take the bus towards 'Glenwood Springs to Aspen'. The bus operates frequently, so check the RFTA schedule to plan your trip. Stay on the bus until you reach the stop at the Glenwood Springs I-70 Exit 116. This stop is close to the entrance of the Hanging Lake Trail which leads to the Hanging Lake Tunnel. From the bus stop, walk along the trail that begins at the exit and follow the signs to Hanging Lake. The trail is roughly 1.2 miles long and will take you through beautiful scenery.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer to bike, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in downtown Glenwood Springs. Head east on 6th Street, then turn right onto Grand Avenue. Continue until you reach the I-70 bike path. Follow the bike path along the highway toward Hanging Lake. The bike route is approximately 2 miles and is relatively easy, providing scenic views of the surrounding area. Once you reach the Hanging Lake area, secure your bike in the designated bike racks and proceed on foot to the Hanging Lake Tunnel via the trail.

• Walking

  For those who enjoy walking, the hike to Hanging Lake Tunnel can be initiated from the Hanging Lake Trailhead. Start from downtown Glenwood Springs and walk towards the Glenwood Springs I-70 Exit 116. This is about a 2-mile walk. Once you reach the trailhead, the hike to the Hanging Lake Tunnel is approximately 1.2 miles. The trail is well-marked, but be prepared for a steep incline. Make sure to wear sturdy footwear and bring water, as the hike can be challenging, especially at high altitude.
