Driving
From the Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center, drive approximately 1 mile north on Highway 150. Turn left onto the road leading to Piñon Flats Campground. Continue past the campground; the Sand Ramp Trailhead will be on your left. Parking is available at the trailhead. From there, hike along the Sand Ramp Trail to reach Escape Dunes. Note that entrance fees to the park are $25 per vehicle.

From Piñon Flats Campground, follow the signs for the Sand Ramp Trail. The trail gradually ascends, offering views of the dunes and surrounding mountains. Escape Dunes is a designated campsite along this trail. The hike is roughly 2 miles and takes about 1-2 hours. Remember to bring water and sun protection, as the area can be exposed.
