Getting There

Car
From the Cahuita National Park entrance, head southwest on the main road (Route 36) towards Puerto Viejo. Continue for approximately 7 kilometers until you reach the town of Puerto Viejo. Once in Puerto Viejo, look for signs directing you towards Punta Uva. Turn left onto the road towards Punta Uva and continue for about 3 kilometers. You will pass through the town of Punta Uva. Playa Grande will be on your right, located along the Unnamed Road (J8Q9+G6F). There is no designated parking, but you can find spaces along the road.

Public Transportation
From Cahuita, you can catch a bus heading towards Puerto Viejo. Buses run frequently throughout the day and cost around 1,000 CRC (approximately $1.50 USD). Once in Puerto Viejo, transfer to a bus heading towards Punta Uva. The fare for this leg is also about 1,000 CRC. Inform the driver you want to get off at Playa Grande, and they will drop you off near the beach entrance. Be sure to check the bus schedule for return trips.

Bicycle Rental
If you prefer a more active option, consider renting a bicycle in Cahuita. Several shops offer rentals for about 3,000 CRC (approximately $4.50 USD) per hour. Cycle southwest on Route 36 towards Puerto Viejo. This is a scenic route that takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Once you reach Puerto Viejo, follow the signs to Punta Uva, which is an additional 3 kilometers. Upon reaching Playa Grande, you can lock your bike in a safe area along the road.
