    From Santa Elena, the most common access point, you can take a public bus to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The bus departs from the Banco Nacional in Santa Elena at 6:15 AM, 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 1:20 PM, and 3:00 PM. The ride takes approximately 30 minutes. The cost is approximately 700 CRC (about $1.20 USD) each way.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available from Santa Elena to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. A taxi ride costs around $12 USD for the 5-kilometer trip. This rate is per trip, not per person, so it can be a cost-effective option for groups.

  • Shuttle

    Shuttles are available from Santa Elena downtown to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve at 6:15 AM, 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 1:20 PM and 3 PM. The cost is $3 USD one way and reservations can be made at the Monteverde Info Center.

  • Driving

    If driving, a high-clearance vehicle is recommended, especially during the rainy season. Follow the road from Santa Elena towards the reserve. All visitors must check in at the Harriot Powell Visitor Center, about 1 mile (1.7 km) from the reserve entrance. Parking at the visitor center costs $5 USD. From the parking lot, a shuttle will take you to the reserve entrance; this shuttle is included in the parking cost and runs every 15 minutes from 7 AM to 5 PM.
