Discover more about Izletište Kraljičin zdenac

Kraljičin Zdenac, meaning "Queen's Well" or "Queen's Spring," is a beloved retreat located in the Medvednica Nature Park, just north of Zagreb. This easily accessible destination offers a tranquil woodland environment with well-marked paths, making it perfect for a refreshing escape without a strenuous climb. The area's history is interwoven with local lore, telling tales of a Croatian queen who sought respite at the spring centuries ago. The name is also linked to the Black Queen, believed to be Barbara Celjska, who ruled from nearby Medvedgrad. Legend says that during a severe drought, all wells dried up except hers. When she refused water to the thirsty locals, a new spring miraculously appeared at Kraljičin Zdenac, while the Black Queen's well ran dry. In the late 19th century, the Croatian Mountaineering Society enhanced the area, and Milan Lenuci designed a shelter. Count Miroslav Kulmer also contributed by building a lodge, fishpond, and promenade for his wife. Today, Kraljičin Zdenac remains a popular destination. While the lodge is currently closed, Lugareva kuća, just 150 meters away, offers a place to rest and enjoy a meal. The spring itself is the source of the Kraljevec stream, known as the mountain's most famous source of drinking water. The well-maintained hiking trail leading to Kraljičin Zdenac is one of the oldest in Medvednica, now known as Miroslavec (Trail No. 13). Along the way, educational panels display the geological structure and history of Medvednica. The path meanders alongside the Kraljevec stream, enhancing the experience with the soothing sound of flowing water.
