Discover more about Papírna u Devíti mlýnů

Papírna u Devíti mlýnů, or the Paper Mill at the Nine Mills, is a captivating historical site located within the scenic Podyjí National Park. Situated near the village of Havraníky, this area was once a hub of milling activity, with the earliest records dating back to 1497. The steep gradient of the Dyje River made it an ideal location for water mills, with at least six mills known to have existed in the area. The Papírna itself gained its name in the 1920s when a local entrepreneur, Potouček, converted Lantzerberger's mill into a paper production facility. The mill was equipped with a Francis turbine and operated until World War II, after which the area became part of the border zone. In the 1960s, the mill was demolished by soldiers, and the water channel was filled in. Today, visitors can explore the partially reconstructed ruins of the paper mill, including the cleaned-out water channel and the remains of the turbine. Information panels provide insights into the mill's history and the surrounding Nine Mills area. The site is freely accessible and offers a peaceful setting to appreciate the natural beauty of the Dyje River valley. The location is easily accessible by following the yellow marked trail.
