Discover more about Church of St. Salvator

The Church of St. Salvator (Kostel svatého Salvátora) is a significant architectural and spiritual landmark located in Prague's Old Town. As part of the historic Klementinum complex, its history is closely tied to the arrival of the Jesuits in Prague. Construction began in 1578 in the Renaissance style, but it was later renovated in the Baroque style in the 17th century by Carlo Lurago, Francesco Caratti and Frantisek Kanka. The church's facade is decorated with sandstone sculptures of saints by Jan Jirí Bendl, and a niche houses a sculpture of the Virgin Mary. The interior is surprisingly large, featuring three aisles with galleries and a high central aisle leading to a dome adorned with frescoes. St. Salvator is also home to two magnificent organs, which are played during Mass and classical concerts. The church has a crypt containing the remains of Jesuits. Today, St. Salvator Church belongs to the academic parish and hosts classical concerts, especially around Easter and Christmas. Its excellent acoustics and beautiful setting make it a popular venue for musical performances.
