Discover more about Muzeum Slivovice R. Jelínek

Muzeum Slivovice R. Jelínek offers a deep dive into the history of slivovitz, a traditional fruit spirit deeply rooted in Czech culture. Located in a beautifully restored building in Malá Strana, Prague, the museum provides an engaging and interactive experience for visitors. The museum explores the history of fruit distillation in the Czech lands, dating back to 1585. The R. Jelínek company, a prominent producer of slivovitz, was founded in 1894 and has been instrumental in preserving this tradition. The exhibits showcase the processes, stories, and cultural significance surrounding slivovitz production. Visitors can enjoy interesting projections, real exhibits, and a 5D show with virtual reality. A tasting bar offers a chance to sample various fruit spirits in a setting reminiscent of modern Wallachia. The museum also features a shop with a wide selection of R. Jelínek products. The building itself has a rich history, originally built for Catholic students in the early 17th century. It later underwent Baroque and Classicist renovations. In 1966, it was purchased by actress Slávka Budínová, who significantly renovated the interior. After being damaged in the 2002 floods, Rudolf Jelínek purchased the building in 2011 and transformed it into the museum that stands today.
