Discover more about Hradiště Březina

Hradiště Březina, located near the village of Březina in the Rokycany district, is an ancient hillfort dating back to the early Middle Ages. This site, perched on Hradiště Hill in the western part of the Křivoklátsko Highlands, offers a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved stone ramparts. The hillfort, protected as a cultural monument, features ramparts that stand five to six meters high, enclosing an area of approximately 1.44 hectares. Archaeological findings, including ceramic fragments, suggest that the hillfort was inhabited from the 9th to the 10th centuries. Some shards indicate activity during the High Middle Ages, and a single find points to possible Hallstatt period settlement. The site consists of two parts, with the main section surrounded by the stone ramparts and a western outer ward. Although the outer ward's ramparts are no longer visible, they were documented in 19th-century plans. Two entrances are preserved in the perimeter rampart, likely marking the locations of the original gates. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the wooden gazebo atop the hill, built in the 19th century by Kašpar Maria Šternberk, a notable naturalist. The surrounding area features walking trails and natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
