Discover more about Millbrook Village Historic Site

Millbrook Village is a living history site that provides an immersive experience of 19th-century rural life. Located within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, this meticulously recreated village features a collection of homes, workshops, and buildings that represent a typical community from the 1800s. Originally, Millbrook grew around a grist mill established in 1832 by Abraham Garis. The village thrived until the late 19th century when technological advancements and the bypassing of the railroad led to its decline. Today, Millbrook is not an exact restoration but rather a representation of the many villages that dotted the American landscape during that era. Visitors can explore the village year-round, wandering through the historic streets and imagining life in a bygone era. On select weekends and during special events, volunteers and park rangers in period clothing demonstrate traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, weaving, and woodworking. While the original grist mill is gone, another mill was moved to the area to help recreate the village. Many buildings were moved to Millbrook for preservation. Millbrook Village offers a unique opportunity to connect with the past and learn about the skills, trades, and daily lives of those who lived in rural America.
