Car
If you are traveling by car, head towards the town of Sangolquí, which is about 1.5 hours from Quito. From Sangolquí, take the E28 highway towards La Maná. After approximately 45 minutes, you will reach the junction for the Reserva Ecológica Los Illinizas. Follow the signs for the reserve, and continue on the road for about 30 minutes until you reach the entrance of the reserve. Ensure to have a map or GPS enabled, as some areas may have limited signal.

Public Transportation
To reach Reserva Ecológica Los Illinizas via public transportation, first take a bus from Quito to Ambato. Buses leave regularly from the Quitumbe bus terminal. The journey takes about 3 hours. Once in Ambato, transfer to a bus heading to La Maná. This leg of the trip will take about 1.5 hours. Upon arrival in La Maná, you can either take a taxi or a local bus to the reserve entrance. Expect to pay around $1-2 for the taxi or bus fare.

If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Ambato to the reserve. This will be more expensive, costing around $30-$40, but it will take you directly to the entrance of Reserva Ecológica Los Illinizas without needing to transfer between different modes of transportation.

For the adventurous, consider starting your journey from the nearest town to the reserve, which is La Maná. After getting there by bus, you can hike to the reserve entrance. The hike is approximately 8 km and will take about 2-3 hours. Be sure to wear proper hiking shoes and bring plenty of water.
