Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start from the town of Quilotoa, which is well marked. From the center of Quilotoa, head south on Vía Sigchos. Follow the road for approximately 12 kilometers (about 30 minutes), keeping an eye out for signs to Laguna de Quilotoa. The road is mostly paved but can be bumpy in places. Once you reach the entrance to the lagoon, there is a parking area available. Note that there may be a small entrance fee to access the area, usually around $1 per person.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Laguna de Quilotoa using public transportation, take a bus from the town of Zumbahua to Quilotoa. Buses frequently depart from the Zumbahua bus terminal, and the journey takes about 30 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedule as it may vary daily. Once in Quilotoa, you can either hike down to the lagoon or hire a local guide or horse at the main entrance. There is typically a small fee for guided tours or horse rides down to the lake. The hike is steep but the views are stunning.

• Hiking

  If you prefer to hike, you can start directly from the town of Quilotoa. The hike to Laguna de Quilotoa takes about 1 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Begin at the main square and follow the marked trails leading down towards the lagoon. The trail can be steep and rocky, so ensure you have proper hiking shoes. The scenery is breathtaking, and you'll pass through beautiful landscapes along the way.
