Mendefera’s history dates back to ancient times, with archaeological evidence indicating that the region was inhabited as early as 500 BC. The city’s name itself, derived from the Tigrinya words 'Men' and 'Defra,' meaning 'Who dared it,' is a testament to its long-standing significance and the courage of its early inhabitants.
