Getting There

• Walking

  Start from the center of Mekele, specifically from the 'Mekele Stadium' area. Head northwest on 'Hawelti Street' for about 1.5 kilometers. You will pass several local shops and cafes on your way. Continue walking until you reach the junction with 'Aksum Road'. Turn left onto Aksum Road and follow it for approximately 3 kilometers. You will see signs pointing towards Aksum. After about 20 minutes of walking, you will arrive at the entrance to the Aksum Obelisk site, which is located at coordinates 14.1321° N, 38.7194° E.

• Public Transport (Bus)

  From the main bus station in Mekele, take a bus heading towards Aksum. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Inform the bus attendant that you want to get off at the Aksum Obelisk. Once you arrive, the obelisk site is a short walk from the bus stop. Follow the signs leading to the obelisk, which is located at coordinates 14.1321° N, 38.7194° E.

• Bicycle Rental

  If you prefer a more active approach, rent a bicycle from a local shop in Mekele. Head northwest on 'Hawelti Street' for approximately 1.5 kilometers, then turn left onto 'Aksum Road'. The total distance is about 4.5 kilometers from the center of Mekele to the Aksum Obelisk. Ride at a leisurely pace and enjoy the scenery along the route. Upon reaching the Aksum Obelisk site, you will find it at coordinates 14.1321° N, 38.7194° E.
