Discover more about Hôtel de Caumont

Located in the Quartier Mazarin of Aix-en-Provence, the Hôtel de Caumont is a stunning example of 18th-century architecture. Built between 1715 and 1742, it was designed by architects Robert de Cotte and Georges Vallon for François Rolland de Réauville de Tertulle, the Marquess of Cabannes. The building boasts a beautiful facade and an interior featuring an indoor fountain and grand staircases. Throughout its history, the Hôtel de Caumont has passed through several hands, serving as a private residence for prominent families, including the Bruny de la Tour d'Aigues family. In 1964, the city of Aix acquired the building, and it later housed the Conservatoire Darius Milhaud music school from 1970 to 2013. Today, it is a cultural center hosting art exhibitions and events. The Hôtel de Caumont hosts two major temporary exhibitions each year, dedicated to significant figures in art history. In 2025, visitors can explore "Le bestiaire magique" by Niki de Saint Phalle until October 5. The art center also features a film, "Cezanne au Pays d'Aix," which is continuously shown in the auditorium. The Café Caumont offers a relaxing break with a terrace overlooking shaded gardens.
