The Vestiges du Couvent des Sœurs Grises d'Amiens, located in the Saint-Germain district, are a reminder of the city's rich history. In 1486, the Grey Sisters, a Franciscan order founded by Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, settled in Amiens. They devoted themselves to caring for the sick, aiding the poor, and sheltering travelers at the Hôpital Saint-Nicolas-en-Coquerel. The convent's church was rebuilt in the 16th century, with additional buildings added in the early 18th century. During the French Revolution, the convent was declared a national asset and sold in 1793. Unfortunately, most of the convent was destroyed during the German bombings of May 19, 1940, in World War II. Despite the destruction, parts of the cloister and crypt survived. These remnants were designated as historical monuments on December 18, 1940. Today, the remaining cloister walls form a quadrilateral within a public garden, the Square du Cloître des Sœurs Grises, offering a peaceful space to reflect on the sisters' legacy and appreciate the site's architectural heritage.
