Discover more about Castle of Tornac

The Château de Tornac, a historic castle overlooking the Gardon d'Anduze, stands as a testament to centuries of strategic importance and architectural evolution. Located 3 km from Anduze, this site, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 1985, controlled key routes between the Rhone Valley and the Cévennes. Originally built in the 11th and 12th centuries, the castle features a square tower called the Sandeyran Tower, which was part of a signal tower network stretching from the coast to Florac. In the 16th century, Bermond de la Jonquière added a beautiful residence, later destroyed in 1628 during the Wars of Religion. The castle saw its heyday in the 18th century with landscaped gardens, but was burned during the French Revolution in 1792. Today, the castle's exteriors are freely accessible, offering visitors a chance to explore its ruins and enjoy the exceptional views. The site is undergoing restoration by the Association of Friends of the Castle of Tornac.
