Getting There

  • Walking

    If you're starting from the Vieux Port area of La Rochelle, head southwest along the waterfront promenade (Quai Louis Prunier). Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Rue de la République. Turn left onto Rue de la République and walk straight for about 500 meters until you reach the roundabout at Place de Verdun. From there, take the second exit onto Avenue de la République. After about 300 meters, keep left to stay on Avenue de la République. Continue straight until you see the Canal Rompsay on your right.

    From the city center, you can take Bus Line 3 towards 'La Pallice'. Board the bus at the nearest stop (e.g., Place de Verdun). Stay on the bus for approximately 10 stops, and get off at the 'Canal Rompsay' stop. After disembarking, walk a short distance along the canal to reach the bassin de retenue.
