Walking
From the Hohenschwangau Ticket Center (Alpseestraße 12), follow the signs towards Hohenschwangau Castle. The walk is uphill and takes approximately 15-20 minutes. The path is paved but can be steep in sections. There are no costs associated with walking to the castle.
Horse-Drawn Carriage
Horse-drawn carriages depart from near Hotel Müller (Alpseestraße) and drop you off a short uphill walk from the castle entrance. The carriage ride takes about 10 minutes. Tickets can be purchased directly from the coachman. As of May 2025, the uphill trip costs approximately €8 per person, and the downhill trip is €4. Please note that the carriage service may be discontinued during the winter schedule.
Public Transport
From Füssen train station, take bus line 73 or 78 to the "Hohenschwangau Neuschwanstein Castles, Schwangau" stop. From the bus stop, follow the signs to the Ticket Center (approximately a 5-minute walk). Then, proceed to the castle on foot (15-20 minutes uphill) or by horse-drawn carriage. A single bus fare from Füssen to Hohenschwangau is approximately €3-4. Remember to factor in the additional cost of the horse-drawn carriage if you choose that option for the final ascent.
Driving
Drive to Hohenschwangau and park in one of the designated parking lots (P1-P4). Parking costs between €12 and €16 per day for cars. From the parking lot, it's a 15-20 minute uphill walk to the castle. Alternatively, you can take a horse-drawn carriage from near Hotel Müller for an additional fee (€8 uphill, €4 downhill).
