Die-Alten-Glocken, or Maria Himmelfahrt Partenkirchen, is a captivating historical site located in the heart of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The church's history dates back to 1315, when it was first mentioned as "filias Parttenkhirch". In 1381, the church gained the right to collect tolls on goods passing through Partenkirchen, indicating its growing importance. In 1734, a baroque-style church was built and dedicated to Maria Himmelfahrt (Assumption of Mary). However, a devastating fire in 1865 destroyed much of the town, including the church. Fortunately, some items, including a painting of the Assumption of Mary, were saved. The foundation for a new, neogothic church was laid in 1868, and it was consecrated in 1871. Today, the church stands as a testament to the town's resilience and devotion. The church tower dominates Partenkirchen's center. Inside, visitors can admire the architecture and artwork, including the painting of Maria Himmelfahrt by Michael Wittmer.
