Getting There

  • Tram

    From Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take tram line 5 towards 'Heidelberg, Altstadt'. The tram departs frequently, approximately every 10-15 minutes. Ride for about 10 minutes and get off at the 'Bismarckplatz' stop. From there, follow the signs to the 'Schloss' (Castle) which will guide you to the funicular railway station.

  • Walking

    After getting off at 'Bismarckplatz', walk towards the castle. Follow the street signs that lead you to the funicular railway station. It’s a pleasant walk of about 15 minutes uphill, with a lot of charming sights along the way. The funicular will take you directly to the top of the castle where the Schlossgartenbahn is located.

  • Bus

    Alternatively, from 'Bismarckplatz', you can catch bus line 33 towards 'Heidelberg, Schloss'. This bus will take you closer to the castle area. Get off at the 'Schloss' stop and from there, it's just a short walk to the funicular station that leads to the Schlossgartenbahn.
