Its name originates from a cannon placed here in 1798 by the French to protect the island. Kanoni's main attractions include the 17th-century Vlacherna Monastery, perched on a tiny islet and accessible via a short causeway, and Pontikonisi (Mouse Island), a verdant islet with a Byzantine chapel.
