Getting There

Walking

The Agaña-Hagatna Pillbox is located near the Paseo de Susana in Hagåtña. From the Guam Museum, walk north along Marine Corps Drive, then turn right onto Paseo de Susana. The pillbox is a short walk up a marked trail from the Paseo. The walk from the museum to the pillbox is approximately 15-20 minutes.
Public Transport

From Agana Heights, take the bus towards Hagåtña along Route 4. Get off at the bus stop near the intersection of Route 8. Walk approximately 0.5 miles down Route 8 until you see the sign for the Agaña-Hagatna Pillbox. Follow the path leading to the pillbox. Bus fare is approximately $2-$5.

Taxis are available in Hagåtña. A taxi ride from the Guam Airport to Hagåtña is approximately $40-$50 and takes about 8 minutes. The Agaña-Hagatna Pillbox stands as a reminder of Guam's role in World War II. Constructed by the Japanese during their occupation (1941-1944), this six-sided reinforced concrete structure was part of the island's coastal defense system. The pillbox is located a short distance above the high-tide line on the west side of the Paseo de Susana, offering strategic views of the coastline.The interior is divided into two chambers, each featuring a gun port. The structure's walls are between 1.5 and 3 feet thick, and the roof is fortified with a 'crown' of coral rocks cemented on top. Today, the Agaña-Hagatna Pillbox is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a historical landmark. Visitors can explore the pillbox, learn about its significance through informative plaques, and enjoy the scenic views.
