Discover more about Mt. Lam Lam

Mt. Lam Lam, meaning "lightning" in the Chamorro language, is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and those interested in Guam's rich history. While modest in height at 406 meters (1,332 feet) above sea level, it holds a unique distinction. Measured from its base on the ocean floor in the nearby Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean, Mt. Lam Lam is considered by some to be the world's tallest mountain. The hike to the summit offers stunning 360-degree views of Guam's mountain terrain and rugged coastlines. The well-worn trail passes through diverse terrain, including dense jungle, breezy savannahs, and rocky patches. Be prepared for steep sections and potential mud, especially after rain. Sword grass along the trail can be sharp, so long pants are recommended. Along the way, you'll find small white crosses marking the "Stations of the Cross," a tradition for Guam's Catholic community. A side trail leads to Mt. Jumullong Manglo, Guam's second-highest peak, also adorned with large crosses. The main trail continues to Mt. Lam Lam's summit, where a concrete platform holds a geodetic marker and flags of Guam and the United States.
