Discover more about Mount Jumullong Summit

Mount Jumullong, also known as Mount Jumullong Manglo, offers visitors panoramic views of Guam's landscapes. Rising to 391 meters (1,283 ft), it is the 2nd highest peak in Guam. The moderately challenging trail to the summit provides an opportunity to connect with the island's natural beauty and cultural heritage. The mountain holds significant importance to the Chamorro people, Guam's indigenous inhabitants. It was a significant site for ancient Chamorro rituals and ceremonies, serving as a spiritual and cultural landmark. The mountain is often visited for its spiritual significance, with locals and tourists alike participating in traditional rituals and ceremonies. Each Good Friday, a large crowd of Catholic followers hikes to the top, stopping to pray at the Stations of the Cross and light candles at the Virgin Mary grotto. A new cross is carried up the mountain as a symbol and reenactment of the cross Jesus carried during his crucifixion. The 14 white crosses on the walk up are marked with Roman numerals and represent the Stations of The Cross. The mountain also played a strategic role during World War II when Guam was occupied by Japanese forces from 1941 to 1944. The mountain's vantage point was used for lookout posts by both Japanese and later American forces during the liberation of Guam.
